About the Institute
The Institute for Ethics and History of Health in Society (IEHHS) examines ethical and historical perspectives on medicine in its clinical, scientific, social and political contexts. Our research and teaching focus on current issues relating to health, prevention and disease. We contribute to ethically and historically informed debate on norms and values in medicine, science, politics and the public sphere. International networking and interdisciplinary scientific cooperation are particularly important to us.

Our research and teaching focus takes into account dimensions that include the clinical context, but also go beyond it. The connection to science, politics, society, and the global dimension is important to us. This orientation also fits in with the socially highly relevant research priorities of the 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】ical Faculty of the 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】 of Augsburg, digitalisation and climate.
We work in an interdisciplinary manner (medicine, public health, history, ethics, sociology, gender studies, political science, law, etc.). Our work therefore connects the Faculty of 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】icine with the humanities and social sciences.
Active scientific and public relations activities are important to us. We regularly organise seminars and workshops (e.g. Ethics@Lunch) and are active in numerous networks and commissions (e.g. Ethics of AI in Healthcare, Academy for Ethics in 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】icine, European Association of Centres of 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】ical Ethics, German Society for Public Health, Genomics England, German Human Genome-Phenome Archive, UK-FR Genomics and Ethics Network, WHO committees, editorial boards of journals, leadership of ethics working groups in the Academy for Ethics in 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】icine, the German Society for Public Health and the British Society for Genetic 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】icine).
We are research-oriented, involved in national and international collaborations, and strive to influence practice and policy with our work.
We work as a team and strive to create a supportive, career-promoting, friendly working atmosphere that also takes individual circumstances into account. If you are interested in our work, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Members include the IEHHS team and other researchers at the 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】 of Augsburg who are involved in our work (see below). In line with this interdisciplinary and networked approach, the institute always welcomes new members from other medical departments and faculties.
