I am a global historian of technology, economy, and the environment with a particular focus on globalization processes, the intersection of ecology and economy, and the nineteenth and twentieth century. My work bridges history and environmental humanities. My research interests range from asphalted roads as infrastructures of the Anthropocene to the international trade in hazardous waste, and from wetlands as non-binary spaces of inquiry to verticality as an enviro-historical concept. In my teaching, I like to use walking as a methodology. My research has received numerous prizes and awards, such as the Harold & Margaret Sprout Award of the International Studies Association (ISA) and the Hagley Prize awarded by the Business History Conference (BHC) and the Hagley Museum and Library. My work has been supported through fellowships, among them from the Smithsonian Institution, the Science History Institute, the German Historical Institute, or the 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】 of Pennsylvania.
